Trying to figure out how to introduce my main villain for this novel I'm writing...how does one make a character appropriately creepy and awkward without making it blatantly obvious that he's a villain and still maintaining the fact that the protagonist doesn't QUITE hate him yet?

Catherine Hawthorn I'm having the same problem with Magda sort of. I'm trying to introduce her big Act of Shame the Reveals Her as a Bad Person without going into graphic detail and I'm finding it rather difficult to say the least.

Lydia Redwine I think it comes down to comparison. Like for instance, do you have other characters present in the story that aren’t very good people? Like anti hero’s where it’s obvious they aren’t wholly good? If so, presenting your villain more as an anti hero at first might help. But it all depends on what other characters you have I guess. As a reader I can tell who the villain is right away by simply comparing him/her to the other characters.

I do in fact have several antiheroes...the problem is that this guy is a spy, and so making him slip up to reveal to the reader and my protagonist that he IS the villain is tricksy. :P
