Honestly, this book is so cute. And, naturally, as it is with many children’s stories, we have a new kid at school plot and the drama that goes with that. It’s an enjoyable read so far though. I’d like to see more of Tan’s relationships with each of her sisters though. Maybe in the later half of the book.

Sad we got a bullying storyline, though expected for a book like this. It hasn’t been resolved (i wonder how it will be resolved?), but I like how there are other people looking out for Tan, showing that just because you want to be friends with one person and they don’t want to be friends with you doesn’t mean that everyone doesn’t want to be friends with you. That was an awfully worded sentence.

I love that the journal entries that Tan does aren’t a summary of what happens in the chapter. They bridge the gap between the previous chapter and the next one.

The only thing that I’m not keen on is the fact it’s first person, present tense, but I will forgive it for now.

I love how simple kids stories are! Like the fact Tan was named purely bc all of her sisters were named after a colour and she was the last one of the group. And the worries a child has when moving from the city to the country. The book even has Tan explain new vocabulary :’)
And, she writes a journal entry at the end of the chapter. So cute!!!
