Halfway in and not sure I can stomach the rest. Some big ideas thrown around, with often very shallow treatments; conversely there seem to be page after page devoted to physical descriptions of the characters, who I find it very difficult to care about. Have read a few of Doctorow’s other books and writings, but I think I’ll save us both some time and skim the second half of this one.
