The mom thought that she knew where she was going, but as hours past by, she realized they were lost. She didn't tell the children that she was lost, since she thought it might scare them. After several hours past by, night came, until they found their way home.

As the book comes to an end, the author tries to find who she really is on the inside. She lurks through her inner self in hopes of finding out the reason why she thinks the way she does. As she comes to the inner core of her thoughts, she realizes that it’s not what she was expecting. She was sad that she was really a stranger person until she realizes that it takes effort to try not to be that way.

As the story goes on, the author claims that she did not like to follow the rules when she was younger, and thought about things that no normal person would think of. She claims to have been a strange person, who is abnormal when compared to those of another. The author tries to avoid thinking these thoughts by ignoring to her inner self.

As the story continues, the narrator discusses some misconceptions that her dogs have. She points out the flaws in her dogs, such as that they eat bees, rip up furniture, constantly annoy her, and make many annoying sounds. She then goes on to tell them that they shouldn't be doing what they are already doing, by giving them a list of certain things they could do in order to prevent them from being annoying.

As the story progresses, the narrator tells about a story of how she was once watching a movie one night with her boyfriend, when she heard strange screeching sounds outside of her house. She went to see what it was, but was amazed to see that there was a goose starring straight at her, in her front yard. Remembering that one time she was attacked by geese, she ran inside. The goose then attacked her boyfriend.

Moving on, Allie Brosh informs the reader of when a family friend gifted her and her sister a toy parrot that repeats phrases. They played with it all day long, non-stop, which really got her parents annoyed. Eventually, it was inevitably found to be "broken," because it had a cut wire. It was in fact her parents who snipped the wire, but Allie and her sister, asked their aunt if she could fix it.

She tried so hard to get rid of it, and finally learn how to feel feelings and emotions, but they didn't work. Finally, one day, she was crying on the ground, when she looked under the refrigerator and saw a tiny piece of corn. This made her laugh so hard, that it cured her depression.

When she was a little girl, she was addicted to sugar, and there was a cake that she took a bite from once, and she couldn't stop eating the cake until it was finished. The narrator also discusses how she always thought that she could train dogs, which she really can not do.

The author uses words that appeal to people's sense of humor. It's a decent introduction that gives the reader an idea of what the book is going to be about.
