Is it YA? Is it not YA? Is it Character Sci-Fi? I don't know. It's a really good book, though. I've missed my bus stop 3 times so far because I was too absorbed in it.

Jeez, maybe this is YA. There's no cursing beyond what words the aliens use like "mother-burning" and "ashsoul." These aliens have a thing with fire, yeah...
It's starting to seem every chapter is "Joe gets his ass kicked, run harder than any of the other recruits, then has a moment of character building along with one or two of his fellow squadmates, repeat. I'm ready for Joe to start kicking alien ash
