A theme of this book is trust. In this book all you can count on is trust. Nothing else. She had to trust what her gut was telling her to do to go live with her Aunt. Even though her choice may have been bad, she had to trust her mother to step up and take care of her children and protect them. Trust is the biggest thing in this book and it is all nase on the decisions you make.

Now that she gets to leave her family really just shows me how brave a young woman can be. Although she really didn't want to leave her family with her abusive father, she looked passed that and saw something good for her. She made the decision to leave and progress her life and stop putting everyone else's before hers. She may wish that she could take it back but, I think this was the best decision for her.

This is my second time reading this book and it just seems to be better than the first time. I am noticing some details that I did not notice the first time that make me change how I see things in the book. It changes your complete thoughts and outlooks on the book and each character. Maybe this happens with all or only some books but, I am really enjoying this even more now.

I think that the theme of this book is being sorry for one another. derek leaves Patty and its not fair. So the family starts to feel sorry for her. I think that the family should just leave her alone and let her make her own decisions. They barely even care about her anyway. Maybe its best for her to be left alone, then she wont feel cared for.
