Ishmael has been recognized as a child soldier, he has a choice to make, if they flee the village, they might be killed by rebels. If they stay and fight, then they risk starvation. It is a tough decision. My favorite character is Ishmael because of his bravery and toughness. He has to go through tough experiences every day of his life yet, he still pushes through.

I feel what is happening so far is quite horrible, I find it horrible that the rebels have split apart family and destroyed relationships. Whatever is going on, it isn't human.

Ishmael has been isolated from his brother, his friends, everybody. Following the attacks, Ishmael is frustrated, and the rebels burn an authoritive figure.
