Sometimes they were teachers who jumped on us Mexicans as if we were born with a hideous stain. We were always afraid. Always running.” (pg.36) I chose this golden gem because it reflects what the narrator and all his friends and family are going through at such a young age. They worry constantly and don’t feel safe anywhere.

This book in a way reminds me of a friend I had who was always moving he never had a place he could call home. His parents were separated and he lived a very complicated life like the narrator of this novel. I really like the book so far and I’m looking forward to finding out what the narrator’s life will turn out to be like.
