This book in a way reminds me of a friend I had who was always moving he never had a place he could call home. His parents were separated and he lived a very complicated life like the narrator of this novel. I really like the book so far and I’m looking forward to finding out what the narrator’s life will turn out to be like.

Sometimes they were teachers who jumped on us Mexicans as if we were born with a hideous stain. We were always afraid. Always running.” (pg.36) I chose this golden gem because it reflects what the narrator and all his friends and family are going through at such a young age. They worry constantly and don’t feel safe anywhere.
