I read part of a synopsis of this book to try to understand more about what is even happening, and it helped. I am able to appreciate this book more for what it is as I read with that additional context.

I can't wait to read something else when I'm done with this, something that has a coherent, chronological plot, that doesn't demand I solve it like a puzzle. That's not to say that I'm not enjoying my time with this book, but I need a break.

The writing is much more readable than I expected given the year that this was published, but it's still reinforcing why I generally stick to modern prose.

Characters are consistently contradicting themselves in dialogue. I have no idea what's going on. I am getting a vibe that they're all actually in an insane asylum and none of them are actually at war, that the war is just a collective delusion. Guess I'll have to keep reading to find out. The characters are pretty indistinguishable from each other so far, though.
