Ch. 24 Dorothy lost her shoes flying over the desert and they were lost forever. She arrives in Kansas and sees her Aunt Em.

She then tells Doroty that she had the answer all along. The silver shoes can take her home and she explains how to do it. The others exclaim that if she had left on the first day they would not have gotten their requests from Oz and they would not be ruling their lands: scarecrow (Oz), tinman (Winkies), and lion (forest). Dorothy kisses them all goodbye, tears all around. Then the silver shoes take Dorothy home.

Ch. 23 They were taken to their rooms to freshen up. Glinda has long ringlets and blue eyes. She wears a white dress. She asks Dorothy why she came and Dorothy briefly retells the whole story and says she wants to get home to her aunt and uncle in Kansas. She doesn’t want them to think she’s dead. Glinda asks for her golden cap and Dorothy happily gives it to her. She uses her wishes to transport her friends back.

The castle of the good witch of the South is not far. They take the road and they arrive at the gate guarded by three girls in red with gold braids. When Dorothy tells them who they are, they say that Glinda, the good witch, will see them immediately.

It knocked the scarecrow who rolled down the hill. Not even the lion could get past the Hammerheads. They suggest calling the winged monkeys and Dorothy does. This is her last wish and she’s happy with it. The Hammerheads are so angry to see the four fly over with the help of the monkeys. The land of the Quadlings love red. The pople are short, jolly, and red. They are festive and love food.

The lion ask if they will obey him if he kills their enemy. He asks if there are other lions but they say no because the spider killed them. The lion bravely walks over and the spider is sleeping. He notices its slender neck and goes after its weak spot with his paws. He lops off its head and he waits until the legs stop wiggling. The animals bow to the lion who promises to return after he deilivers Dorothy.

They walk untill tired. The tinman and scarecrow stand watch over others while they sleep. In the morning they hear growling and wild noixes. They walk down the road and find a group of the wildest of wildest animals meeting. When they see the lion, they hush and ask if he will be their king. They need a leader to fight a strong enemy that sounds like Shelob or Aragog.

Ch. 21 They have to cross bogs and swamps with rank grass and mire after they jump down from the wall. It is a hard slog, but eventually they make it to firm ground that led to an old forest with the tallest, most ancient trees. The ground has a thick cover of dead leaves and the trees have a thick layer of moss. The only one who likes it is the lion. He would love to live in a place like this.

The princess refuses because all she will do is stand on a shelf. Her joints will get stiff and she will never be able to move again. The creatures and china people asr so afriad of them that they flee when they see the four. The trip only took an hour or so. The climb over the china wall, this time shorter. I wonder why.

She yells at them and Dorothy apologizes. Then she goes to get mended. They see a princess who runs and Dorothy tells her she won’t hurt her. If she runs and fall, she will needed to be mended and they are not as pretty after that. They see a clown who has fallen so many times that he is covered in cracks, but he doesn’t care. He gets them mended but the cracks are seen. Dorothy asks the princess to go to Kansas.
