When they enter the throne room, nobone is there. They hear a voice saying he is Oz the Terrible. They ask where he is. He says he is invisible to mortal eyes. They tell him the witch is dead. They remind him of their requests. He asks how she died. Dorothy says she threw a bucket of water at her. He says he will see them tomorrow. They get ticked. The lion roars and a frightened Tot jumps and knocks over the screen.

Ch. 17 The wizard decides to build a hot air balloon so that he, Dorothy, and Toto can fly over the desert. He has decided to let the scarecrow take his place and rule wisely. The tinman builds a fire and the gas from it fills the ballon. Oz gets into the basket but unfortunately Toto runs off to chase a kitten. Dorothy is not able to make to to the balloon in time because a draft of wind pushes the balloon away.

He came when he was young; now he is old. Everyone has forgotten the city once had all colors. He shut himself up in his palace so peopel would not see how weak he was. He is not afraid of the witches of the north and south for they are good. He feared the ones of the east and west because they would go after him if they learned he had no powers. The four promise they will keep his secret if he keeps his promises.

He was born in Omaha. We was a ventriloquist, then a balloonist. He worked for the circus. One day, he got swept up in a current of air and he could not come down. After two days, he did and anded in Oz. He has no idea how to get home. When people saw him come down in a balloon, they thought he was a wizard. So, he told the to build a great city and he invented the green spectacles so everything would look green.

A small man asks them not to hurt him. He is a fraud and he asks them to talk quietly. They ar upset because of all the broken promises. Then to each of them (except Dorothy), he explains how they already have what they want beause the journey has helped them to grow. They still want what they want so he promises to have a plan by the morning, even for Dorothy. He tells his story.

Ch. 14 The guardian is shocked to see the four of them. He chides them for coming back. They tell him the witch is dead because Dorothy melted her. The beautiful girl takes them to their rooms. they wait for several days. The wizard is ignoring them. They tell the soldier that if the wizard does not see them, they will send the winged monkeys so he tells them to meet him in the throne room the next morning.

The cap fell into the hands of the wicked witch and the leader tells Dorothy how she used them. They arrive at Emerald City at that moment and she thanks them for the ride.

He swims to shore and goes to the castle. The sorceress was ticked off. She was going to have their wings tied and throw them in the water, which would kill them. The leader begged for a different punishment. She said they would have to agree to obeying three wishes of the owner of the golden cap. They agreed. His one and only wish was that they would never see a winged monkey again. The monkeys were glad to obey.

She could not find anyone suitable to marry except for a boy with unusual wisdom. She takes him to her ruby palace and uses her magic powers to help him to grow up to be strong, wise, and good. When he reached manhood, she prepared a wedding. The leader’s grandfather decided to prank the young man who was walking by the river wearing a silk and velvet suite. They pick him up and drop him in the water.

She reads the ridiculous chant written inside the cap and the monkeys appear. She request that they take the group to the Emerald City. The monkeys scoop them up and they go. The leader takes Dorothy so she asks him why they have to obey the owner of the golden cap. Long before the wizard came to rule, the monkeys were free but full of mischief. A powerful sorceress ruled the land of the North.
