“The bigger the lighthouse, the bigger the ball.”
“I’m thoroughly impressed with your big ball,”she said, and from the corner of her eye she saw Carrick grin.

Father Pat had been right. She should have stayed out of the water.

Inside the lighthouse it was airless and stuffy, and sounds were muted but for the relentless roar and rumble of the ocean outside.

“And the night mark?”
“The night mark is the pattern the light flashed. Some lighthouses had a steady beam. Some lights flashed. That’s how navigators told lighthouses apart."

I've always love lighthouses. It's romantic and creepy lol!
