*Spoilers in Comments* this book was an insane journey, and despite how infuriating the main character is, it was robustly entertaining. The plot twist at the end had me shocked. Would highly recommend.

The story follows main character Lillian, who is a certified sociopath. She basically has no friends because they all went their separate ways, she basically mentally emotionally and financially abuse her only friend Jamie, and cannot keep any long-term relationship relationships because she’s an absolute narcissist.

She was hooking up with a guy named Henry, but he would only see her on certain nights and late at night. She ends up at his apartment one night and he’s extremely drunk, and he rapes her anally. The next day he breaks it off with her. She ends up finding out that he has a girlfriend that he lives with, who travels for workThat night, her and her friend Jamie put a hex on Henry. The next night Henry ends up dead.
Lillian then uses Jaime‘s credit card to hire a lawyer because she’s under investigation as one of the last people that he spoke to. She ends up crashing his wake and meeting his actual girlfriend Nora, who’s actually a wonderful person. Nora and Lillian semi hit it off after Lillian stocks her for a bit, but Nora ends up, breaking off their budding friendship.
Nora then ends up writing a post in Vogue about basically how she found out that Henry was cheating on her with Lillian, and she only found out after he passed away. This article basically is pieced together by everybody in Lillian’s world, and she ends up being fired from her job. They were trying to secure a contact with this witch who does hexes, and Lillian made too much contact so they ended up firing her.
Basically, in a plot twist ending, we find out that Lillian is the one that killed Henry in an Ambien induced haze. Then when Jaime can run her at the end of the book, it’s implied that Lillian wants to kill her too.It turns out that Lillian had used Jamie’s credit card and linked it to her Uber, and there’s an Uber from the night of Henry’s death of Lillian Uber from her apartment to the bar where Henry was.
Lillian is an absolute sociopath and narcissist, and you’re so frustrated with her for so much of the book because she thinks that the entire world revolves around her and that she’s the most important person. And while I expected the book to end on a more lighthearted note, perhaps with Lillian in therapy, it actually takes a turn to the other side of her committing, potentially to major crimes. The plot twist was insane, and I would highly recommend this book.
