So far, a lot of the same problems as the last one. Lots of random side actions that do nothing but bulk up the word count (what is the purpose of having Mo leave to do a job, and then return immediately when there's danger?? I figured he would run into trouble on his own end to make his departure part of the plot but no he just returns?? With no issue?? Like there was no actual reason to include it in the story???)

The sections in the Inkworld are by far the best of the series so far, but even then whatever editor was attached to this (if there even was one) seems disinclined to cut out anything even when we have multiple chapters describing the same things. Why does it take Meggie so long to go to the Inkworld??? Like those chapters are all the same inner conflict just repeated over and over again. I worry that the rest of the book is just gonna be a long shlog of different characters being transported into the Inkworld one by one incredibly slowly.

These books are just so, inefficient. Not that books need to be sparse but Funke seems to take the longest possible route to go anywhere, and nothing is streamlined into a cohesive plot. Its just a bunch of stops and starts, and whatever forward momentum exists just gets completely halted in its tracks before it can really get going.
