I was not expecting him to be so credulous (at least when it came to his religious role model, Elijah Muhammad), but between that and the raging misogyny (confirmed that it's his present-day view, not just backward review of his thoughts) I'm just forcing myself to finish the book at this point. And, hot take, but I don't believe in *any* racial supremacy worldview, or condemning *any* ethnic group as all devils.

Finished 9 of 19 chapters, and he has reached the prison turning point in his story.

Far more of this book is about his life of crime pre-prison than I expected. I still have two more chapters before it gets to the transition point, so there is far less about this post-prison life and activism than you might expect. His views on women also continue to be pretty exhausting, even if they were typical for men of the time.

I'm midway through Chapter 6 but pausing to note this quote: "All women by nature are fragile and weak. They are attracted to the male in whom they see strength." This is unfortunately the same issue I've seen before when reading stories by other Black male civil rights activists. I am finding his history of his youth and Harlem interesting, but this is still frustrating.
