idk what it is about this book, things keep happening that aren't *that* crazy or unexpected, but they surprise me anyway!! maybe it's just a testament to Johanna van Veen's writing, she's able to surprise me even with things that aren't that surprising

the cheek, the nerve, the gall, the audacity and the gumption of this man to propose right now

this is basically wuthering heights but with body horror. i truly never know where this book is going next
