she’d be very happy indeed with the way things had worked out. And all because of a Christmas letter, one that had started between two old friends and had brought Sophie into their lives as well as helping Jennie to heal.

There was no doubt how she felt about this man and telling him everything at last hadn’t scared him away, it had shown her exactly the sort of man he was. He was reliable, solid, and she never wanted to lose him.

She’d got used to being by herself over the years, and now she’d done what was right. She’d come here and told the truth like she’d been taught to do, as long as that truth was to your advantage and nobody else’s.

Martin had loved Christmas. He had insisted they both have an Advent calendar, they leave mince pies and a glass of port by the fireplace for Father Christmas plus a carrot for the reindeer the way he’d done as a kid,

the ball was far from being in Jennie’s court. To Jennie, the ball had been lobbed at her when she wasn’t even playing the game.
