I feel I am coming close to the end of this but I have no idea how it might end. Worse I don't know how I want it to end. There are some complicated issues in this story and my brain is all confused about it... Not to mention in modern days can anyone really be committed for witchcraft? Surely most modern first world countries would throw it out as nonsense??

Some parts of me can't help but wonder if the magic that Mari is doing in 1821 is having some effect in the modern day (where Haven is) on those sea vents. Who really knows what side affects it has? I am sure the "sea witches" themselves don't fully understand how it works or what they are messing with. They only want to protect their town.

A slight hint of foreboding?? I definitely prefer the chapters that are set in the present day, with Haven trying to do her research.

What do you mean that Mount Vesuvius is Europe's only "active volcano"? What about Campi Flagrai?? It's right there in Naples, by Pozzouli. It's the Solfatara too... What do you think that the INGV is monitoring daily? The "burning fields" is the thing causing the bradyseism, not Vesuvius!

I started this in the morning... It's off to a good start so far. Witches on the beach doing sea magic. I will see where it leads...
