In my book, Tess is a minor character. In the story she is Day's best friend, but she also complicates things dramatically. She makes Day feel guilty about how she likes him, but he doesn't love her back the same way. Tess also gets infected with the plague which gives Day another reason to help the Republic find a cure, and to stop the war between them and the Colonies.

In my book, when the Colonies open fire onto the people of the Republic, Day runs into the line of fire to help his injured brother. However, by doing this, Day allows himself to be shot by Commander Jameson. Day's heroic act shows that he cares enough about his brother Eden that he would run into the battle and risk his own life. Day is loving, daring, and brave.
