Okay, they're definitely editing this one for "modern audiences" -- for some reason people seem to believe children today are too stupid and weak to handle the sort of frights we handled in decades past. There's a sudden bizarre gap, for example, when Tony is recounting the story of the moth. And every vampire character seems so...goofy...in this "translation."

Okay, I'm actually reading a 2022 re-issue...and while the author's blurb at the end praises the new translation, but they're clearly re-writing the book for "modern audiences." Worst example so far? Rudolph's family is said to have died in the 1800s... The book was published in the 1970s, but they have Tony comment they died over 200 years ago.
