2 storylines so far: one involves a mother w/ son on the run, because she wants more control of their lives, wants a more advanced way of life; the son is however "indoctrinated" by the old shaman in whose tribe they last were. As someone else wrote: mother & child come across as a little too modern for this prehistoric setting.
The writing is quite poetic, though.

Heckram & Elsa now form a couple, have an own house; Tillu & KErlew still live apart, but Kerlew & Heckram do become more or less good friends. Not that Elsa & Tillu approve 100% of this, for different reasons (T wants to protect her son, E sees a cultural difference, hence wants to keep things separate). Lindholm's style (yes, it's one of her older works) isn't always that smooth, hence slow reading. :/

So, Tillu & her dreamy son, Kerlew get into contact w/ other people from another tribe: Lasse, Heckram, Elsa (who loves Heckram & he her?). Different languages, though Kerlew & Heckram seem to understand each other. Stuff gets "traded", though Tillu prefers to stay seperate, despite more advanced tribe (wool, fabric, tools, ...). But will she and Kerlew find a new home / tribe? What with Heckram & Elsa?
