The word I chose was, "ricochets," because the author used this word to exaggerate how fast Zephyr's heart was beating. This added intensity to the situation. The definition of the word, "ricochet," is, "a shot or hit that rebounds one or more times off a surface."

The most surprising thing I've read in the book recently was when Zephyr's dad reached out to her mom after abandoning her on her eighteenth birthday following with an underwhelming reaction from her mom. As the reader of the book, I was expecting more of a negative reaction from the mom in order to validate Zephyr's feelings a little better.

The author uses imagery in the book to describe the intensity of Zephyr's field hockey match. Field hockey is a big deal to Zephyr, so the author used imagery words to emphasize a sense of pressure the reader can feel through Zephyr's emotions.

I found the appeal of pathos shown in the last chapter I read. Zephyr's dad recently reached out to her mom to talk again, after leaving her on her 18th birthday and hasn't been back since. This made me upset, because though Zephyr had to go through the struggles of abandonment, her mom made it seem like nothing changed and nothing was noticeably wrong.

I read about Zephyr's recent Field Hockey game, where she was met with victory. They mentioned in the chapter that Zephyr is skilled enough to apply to hockey based colleges. This prompted me to ask if Zephyr will continue to pursue hockey, or if she will be met with a change in heart later in the book. It mentions in the book description that she meets many obstacles later on. Will this change her passions?

The best part of my reading today was finding new characters and the main character, Zephyr's interest. Because I'm still at the beginning of the book, everything seems new and interesting to read about Zephyr and her relations.

I think the author had to research hockey and sportsmanship. The main character, Zephyr is passionate about doing Hockey as a sport in school. So far, she's made it a big part of who she is and her main characteristics. I would ask the author if there was anything that prompted her to introduce hockey as Zephyr's passion, and if it related to the author's interests at all.
