Reading the story Witness by Walter John Williams. I love how they tie in the HUAC with the story of the Aces. Such a wonderful blend of horrible American history with the characters.

What in the hell does this even mean? Haven't we had enough misogynistic bullshit in this book so far? JFC. And I was starting to enjoy this book, despite all of its flaws.

Every time I read a Dirk Pitt novel I'm always reminded of The Simpsons episode where Homer was watching Knight Boat and Marge remarked how there is always a canal or an inlet. I just hit the end of Chapter 7. There's always a body of water. Always.

Right, because Pitt is such a manly man, he never cries, because manly men don't cry. That's for lily livered spineless wimps!

Also, the sexism continues. Oh, how the sexism continues.

Why am I torturing myself with this?

Not as bad as the first two, but then again, Dirk has only shown up once so far. I'm sure he'll make it worse.

Dana being "a liberal feminist" is apparently a detriment according to her husband. And Seagram pressuring his wife to have kids? Maybe you should have talked about that before you got married.

Oh, and Admiral Sandecker? Rape jokes are never funny.

I'm hoping it's been long enough that the foul taste from Iceberg has been washed from my mouth and that I won't immediately be disgusted by something in this book, like the first 2.

I'm enjoying it. It's a Reacher book. They're always fun. However, I know the author is a Brit. I know the author lives in the States now. The US healthcare system doesn't work they way. They fix you. They bill you. You hardly ever pay in advance. May someone with actual Universal Healthcare who just knows the system here in the States sucks would not know. I don't know. Fuck the US healthcare system.

In The Mediterranean Caper, I was amazed and astonished that the “hero” slapped and then raped a woman very early in the book, though it isn’t specifically called rape, that’s what it obviously was, since Dirk, “Took her.” Now, I’ve just hit the point where the “hero” is mocking gay men.

Ok, it was a different time, these were written in the 70s, but what the fuck, Clive?

One of those books I've been wanting to read for a while, but never seem to pick up. So happy I just spent 8 hours on planes so I could be completely absorbed in this amazing book.

I have gotten behind on my re-read and finish of The Wheel of Time series. I should be 2/3 of the way through The Shadow Rising; instead I'm only 1/3 through this. So far we have spent no time with Rand as a POV character. Hasn't been holding my interest all that much, hence why I've been so slow reading it. Wondering how I'm going to do when I get to the the books just past the halfway point that are a real slog.

Still on track to finish in three weeks. So much exciting stuff! And I thought that happened later in the series! Of course, knowing what I know about some futures stuff, I just kind of want to skip ahead to those parts. I'll get there, though!

Have you ever read a book for a second time and been all, "I do not remember any of this, but damn am I loving it!" That's me, right now.

So much that I don't remember from my first reading. Of course, that was over 20 years ago.

Quick read. Really enjoyed her layman's approach to the subject matter. A good book for the masses interested in military technology outside the weapons and vehicles
