I've just finished Book 1. Very good.

Well, we are of to a good start with the first two chapters. For once, a heroine who is over 30 (even over 25 is rare!). Real situations complicating supernatural ones. I'm optimistic.

I hve finished book 3. Weird and crazy.

The aftermath of the attempted takeover by the Universal Church is stalled, but so close to our current reality.

This is a series of 9 books, bundled into one 3550 page file. Well, the second book looks like it is regrouping all the characters from the first one.

Very strange story. A man sells his sole to the devil at the cross roads. There are conditions, and his wife will be restored. Wild goose chase, but he makes it in the end and finishes at the cross roads. I have been to the Cross Roads in Mississipi. Nothing to write home about, but fitting for this story. Mostly, lots of snarky swiping at evil, the supernatural, heaven, hell, crime, etc.

I'm not sold on the characters or the plot, yet. The writing style reminds me of the cynicism of Terry Pratchett, just harder hitting.

The Prologue moves very quickly with little detail and then the opening chapter has very little character development. That said, from the third chapter on the details, the characters, the creatures of this world drag you in.

Ready to start book three, The Defiant Magician. Fun, heartwarming read so far. Weird magic.

I've just finished book 10. The "Death Curse" has fallen and the false gods are now mortal. Strange idea for a curse .....

I just finished book 8 and am ready to tackle book 9. The reading still moves at a breakneck speed. We have moved from freeing the "familiars" to High School kids discovering they have powers. Of course many want to side with the Demons, but not everyone. (3/2)
