I gave up on The Great Gatsby. Life is too short to force myself through a book.

This better get better. The pretentious writing is driving me crazy.

I can see the finish line!

We have a lot of Dust Bowl Okies in Bakersfield and I’m enjoying learning more about what led up to the environmental disaster.

“There is nothing out there for a woman but her bayt wa dar, her house and home. Marriage, motherhood — that is a woman’s only worth.”

This book has no action. It’s almost entirely self-reflection & self-pity as this character has the gift of reading minds and yet cannot connect with people in any meaningful way. He lives as a voyeur of other people’s lives. And be forewarned there is sexual content. Also find it interesting that the author puts words into the protagonist’s mouth that come directly from classics but without attribution.
