I think I'm going to have a break from War & Peace for a little while. I need to do something else with my evenings. Armed robbery, Heroin, anything.

I am now properly actually half way through War and Peace.

Apparently I'm a book behind schedule on my 2017 Reading Challenge. Not sure I'm a fan of this Reading Challenge thing actually.

Onto Book Three! ... of fifteen

The count's died after his sixth stroke! I'm quite enjoying this bit, the underhanded wrangling over his will reminds me of Grand Budapest Hotel.

I actually finished this ages ago, but writing a review of a short story collection always takes me ages and I haven't had the time. What a silly boy I am.

A first hand account of the revolution which led to Lenin & the Bolsheviks (great band name) seizing power in Russia in 1917. There's an introduction by ACTUAL LENIN and John Reed is one of two Americans to be buried in Red Square, so I'll let you draw your own conclusions as to whether this is going to be biased or not. I doubt we'll be seeing much of Lenin's terrifying secret police force The Cheka, for example.

I lent my mum Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell last week which she started reading immediately, she then pointed out quite correctly that she is always recommending books to me, which I dismiss as I have so much to read anyway. I felt a bit bad about this so I asked her to recommend me a book, which I would start straight away. She gave me her battered Penguin copy of this, which I've now started.

Just to show I am actually reading this rather than just having it on my list. Although the number of pages is mega wrong, it's 196 pages long, not 329.

What on earth are you talking about? Do you mean 'lurches'? Do you mean 'lunges'? Was this entire book dictated over the phone?

There was a very short chapter with Han and Chewie in it, I nearly cheered. It was ALMOST well written, but then Han talking to Chewie dialogue is very easy to write, just put in "Pal" and "Fur Ball" every now and again and you're pretty much there.

This is a terrible terrible book & I am very much looking forward to finishing it

Reeling after finishing 'The Case of Charles Dexter Ward' in my H.P. Lovecraft anthology. So good! A great starting point, if anyone wants one.
