Asma' > Recent Status Updates

I have been planning to read this one for almost a decade now. And I choose it as a break-read between other heavier books. Honestly, I think it succeeded at making me curious about where the author is taking this. But so far it is full of cliches.

وأخيراً وجدتُ كتاباً يُحاول أن يُجيب عن التساؤل الأهم: "لماذا لا أجدُ في نفسي ما وقعَ في نفس المسلمين الأوائل عند سماعهم آيات القرآن؟ لماذا لا أستشعر الإعجاز البياني الذي أدخل عديدَ أهل البيان وقتها إلى هذا الدين؟"

جزى الله ابن نبي خيراً على هذا الجهد.

I am going through a reading block, maybe even a life-block (if that's a thing) and it's hard for me to call anything interesting but as I find myself unable to put this book down in less than a 100 pages into it. Well...
I already like how she goes back and forth between different characters, how she paints daily life that seems so causal and normal but with shocking details under all the pretend faces. I need this.

I can't help but think this book is better titled: What's Wrong With Us !

Great job on the characters and the plot..but No! NO..NO..NO..!
DON'T DO THIS TO ME!

أريد أن أتوقف عن القراءة... أريد أن أمحو كل شيءٍ قرأته وأعرفه عن الحرب والموت والحقد الغريب الذي نحمله لبعضنا...دون أن نعرف بعضاً...
أريد أن أكذّبكِ يا سامية...
لكنني لا أستطيع... لا أستطيع أن أتوقف عن القراءة

دلفَ...ندلفُ...يدلفون... دلفنا... دلوف....؟! لماذا هذا الإصرار على وضع كلمة "دلف" بكل تصريفاتها في كل صفحة؟!!
يا أخي ممكن تستعمل كلمات أخرى: دخلنا... اقتحموا... تقدموا....

آه يا أم سعد! وآآآه يا كنفاني!

Repetitive. Repetitive. Repetitive...and boring...

"يحرق حريشك" يا رضوى!

أريد، حقاً، أن أصدق أن كل هذا الرعب حقيقي...

I think I'm starting to understand what's this about...or maybe not!
But I really like the Hempstocks.

هل تدركُ تلك القشعريرة التي تنسلّ تحت جلدك بفعل كلمة؟
هذا الكتاب كله سيتكوم تحت جلدك... في عظمك... في دمك... ولن تمانع ذلك.

It is an easy read, I confess. But I am soooo frustrated and judgmental right now...

I'd always wanted to meet people who lived in beach houses. I'd wanted to tell them that they have no right of ever feeling blue when they can always run to the sea with their worries.
I guess humans have all kind of rights and reasons to feel weird and uneasy, even while living on a beautiful island.

Let's see about this Egret Island..

I still do not get how this book became a classic...

All I see now is a super rich guy running ridiculously costly parties that other rich people rush into without even the need of invitation. It speaks of people I don't understand and I don't even want to...
So far, I haven't even met Gatsby as I should and I am done with the first third of the book!
I already wonder what made this book special.

بدأت بعض الأمور المشوشة تتضح رغم أنها لا تجعل الحياة أسهل ﻷحد من هذه الشخصيات.
واتوقع أنني يجب أستعد لصدمة آتية لا ريب.
