This is the kind of book where the hero’s wife and toddler daughter are brutally murdered in Chapter 5 and then in Chapter 7 he’s meeting with a investigative journalist whose beauty belies her experience

a lot of wordy parenthetical digressions to set up unfunny jokes.

the character’s understanding / familiarity with church is not credible. there is no way that on staff of an 800-member congregation he would be unfamiliar with the operations of a church of thousands.

I want to attribute these deficiencies to the character, but I’m pretty sure they are the author’s.

overwrought... and this dude is too learn-ed for so much bad theology.
