Meh. Maybe because I’m in the audiobook and it’s not read by her but it feels disconnected and jumps around without getting very deep.

Ugh. Too self congratulatory. The author is the best, most entrepreneurial, lots of successes just because she’s smarter and works harder than anyone else. Lots of vague self praise without actually going into any of the nitty gritty

DNF.

Wow, this audiobook is rough. Poor Dick Hill -- Reacher has a busted nose in this one so all of Jack's dialogue is stuffy nose sounding. And DH can not do women's voices. 2 strikes already.

Ugh, so many of the voices are terrible! Painful southern accents everywhere . . .

Audiobook -- at least the character with the terrible voice dies immediately so I don't have to listen to the terrible accent any longer.

I've been gripped by this until the point where we veer into the supernatural . . . not sure how I'll feel about the way this goes.

It started out interesting, but then in the middle started to drag. DNF

A gut wrenching story, but so beautifully written. Artful word choices brings a compelling story to the next level.

listening to the audiobook. The narrator is clear and easy to understand, but there are flashbacks to early parts of her life and there isn't any extra pause to inform the listener of the change in setting/time. That happens often enough to be irritating.

DNF. Can't handle the reader's various whiny voices. The narration is nice, but all the characters are grating to my ears.

DNF. This was terrible.

I had high hopes from the opening, but there is so much useless dialogue about nothing of importance. Rambling chatter from Jane snd ivy and the friend … blah blah blah. Get to the plot.

Also hate the 3rd person present tense narration. It’s awkward.

I don't know if I can deal with the audible version of this book. The narration is OK, but all the female voices are overdone, babyish, teen angsty sounding . . . ugh.

Ugh, it keeps getting worse. Where is Lee Goldberg?! what a disaster. This is how you go from a 4+ star series to a 1 star DNF. Everyone is dumb and the main characters aren't their normal witty and snappy selves. Blah.

jack is annoying and self centered. Once again putting his own self interest over the capture of a criminal. In general he's selfish and always looking out for his own glory/name recognition.

I still prefer the lawyer procedural, but Jack is OK. He's kind of a jerk at times and really possessive about "his story" so I go back and forth on him as a hero.

I like the current events tie in with DNA/genetic privacy. So far a solid story.

So far enjoying it . . . plenty of teasers of background information to be revealed. Easy to read, but not immature. It has a predictable path, but the formula works (adversary turned romantic interest).

Aw, I thought I was getting a Mickey Haller book, but it's actually a Jack McEvoy story. I started a previous Jack book, but DNF (I think). I'll give it a little more time to see if I get hooked.

Struggling with the narrator. He is a non-native English speaker who is very hard to understand. (even though it's an accent I'm used to hearing -- he sounds like an English learner, not fluent.)

It's unfortunate that the author (who's also not a native English speaker, but is much clearer) didn't narrate the book himself, only the first chapter.

i'm probably going to have to wait and read this in print instead.

Nope. Nope. 30% in and it's still dragging. I don't like any of the characters and it's overly melodramatic. I read all the spoilers and am so glad because the twists were dumb and it's a solid DNF

this better pick up . . . right now it's a lot of relationship moaning between people I don't care about yet.

Well, this one is dark. Thought it was about police brutality, but it turned into child sex abuse. Would have passed on it if I had known.

Oh good grief. This is the second book in a month that I've read that uses Covid as a plot line and I'm so over it. We haven't even gotten past it in real life and now I have to hear PSAs in my fiction also? UGH. I don't need a character to tell me that they are wearing a mask "because you don't know if you have it or not," as I've been beaten over the head with that stick in real life enough times.

Beautifully written. Amazing -- a romance that doesn't make me cringe.
