“Hero infiltrates the lair during a social event” is one of my favorite tropes. Even through they have plot armor, the situations are always disarming and require unique solutions to problems. Loved the “social politics” chapters of the book.

This is a very fun book, despite it killing the MatSci in me.

Pretty good, decent action, the heist planning portion was fun. Could have used a bit better team building.

The chapter in 2/3rds of the way through where Z travels through the ship for the first time is a wonderful treatise on the Culture and what progressive liberalism can and should be.

Pretty ok, the nonlinear structure keeps the story interesting even though we are 1/3 of the way through and have just assembled a team and actual plot.

Fun so far. I am encountering previously highlighted passages and I literally remember nothing about this book.

Ok, 20 pages on the color and quality of the water. This is what I signed up for!

Loved the first third, it’s starting to slog.

Pretty rough make gaze but the themes relating to perception and reality are resonating with me. I also like how the time dilation and pre-cognition are handled in a way that disallow plot armor.

Fine. The back half is significantly less interesting than the first so far.

Warming to it. It’s a bit like Sherlock Holmes and every chapter starts with a CliffsNotes Art of War. Fun

Fine. This dude is a real Harry Sue and of course Anakin Skywalker is more than just a “smart alien how storms the imperial ranks”

Was hoping for more rank and file Imperial life.
