Being a part of the military industrial complex for which this book places as part of US imperialism and militarism this book is hard to take, but there is a vein of truth which runs through it.

Towards the end of the book (remainder is notes and appendices). Mr. Ryan's research has provided a story rich in both the operational and tactical level with many personal accounts. These personal accounts become heart breaking as the British 1st Airborne struggle to accomplish their mission long after the projected operation end date.

Completed Part II The Plan. The last section of Part II captured individual's feelings about the upcoming airborne operation. Of special interest were the comments by the Irish Guard who would be leading the attack up the highway. They were hoping to get a break from acting as the spear point, but not this time.

Review of the planning and preparations for the operation. I never realized how fast Market Garden was conceptualized planned and executed. Also found interesting the overly positive attitude of the Allies. Wondering how much of this was 20/20 hindsight attributing a positive attitude to overlooking some of the challenges and intelligence vs. a really over positive attitude which lead to the failure.
