It is hard for me to see these as "Critical Essays" when really they seem to be positive reviews preached to a choir. Bloom's prestige undoes him a bit, I think, and he takes his own opinion for granted at times (though I suppose all reviews are narcissistic in nature). He definitely makes me want to read more; not necessarily because of his insights, but maybe despite them...
