So far, so bad. I'm only 12% through, so I suppose I can give it a bit more room to improve.

As usual, the book is good, but this style stuff is driving me nuts. I just learned that the main character is wearing a Ralph, Lauren jacket and Cole Haan shoes. Good grief!

I’m only 13% of the way through, and I have read more descriptions of every piece of clothing. Everybody is wearing any of the other books. I hope this doesn’t keep up!

As I said, before, I really love the plot, and I roll my eyes when it starts describing every detail of what she’s wearing. Yada yada yada! Get on with a story and stop going on and on about hair color and the shape of her blouse’s collar, and the color of her suit, and the ring on her finger. Just get on with it already!

Depressing, so far. I think I shouldn’t be reading it on a gloomy day.

I can't keep reading this book - one of the most depressing books I have ever read. I will be vigilant about any animal meat/products that I consume. I have been careful to only eat free-range animal products, but sometimes they aren't available. From now on I will always be firm in this. The chapter on the transition to agricultural society was depressing on many other fronts. Just can't read about it any longer.

DNF. This book is so poorly written - entire passages, almost verbatim, repeated several times; very little movement forward of the story. I can’t tell you how many times several of the characters say, “We must solve this,” but actually getting on with it seems to be beyond the characters’ (and the author’s) capabilities.

I’m not eightysomething, but I hope to be, one day in the next decade. Thought this might be applicable. I’ll let you know!

“Snow fell like clots of wet laundry.” What an impossible image. This book is going to have to be really good to make up for that.

I’m learning so much about Canadian history, and how the unfolding relations between the three peoples of English, French, and Aboriginal origins have made Canada what it is today.

This is a brilliantly, poetically written book. I am thrilled to be reading it before my trip to Israel and Palestine.
