The question mark is descended from an ancient Syriac mark, the zawga elaya, a vertical double question dot.

The semicolon can replace both the comma and the conjunction in a sentence with two indy clauses.

The exclamation point may come from an abbreviation of the Latin "io" which was used at the end in manuscripts to denote a particularly "joyful" sentences.

No references list in the back which is concerning, especially for a book that talks about the differences between style guides! The historical side bar info seems like it might be cited from Shady Characters.

Way to deacribe the apotheosis step in the cycle without even using the word apotheosis! Instead rambling about tao and bisexual gods and a whole lot of other BS that, had it been presented coherently instead of by a cis white dude trying to sound like his own Enlightened One, would have actually been decent points.

OOF, these chapters are awful to read. A woman will help you, but she's also EEEEVIL and will seduce you, but also the father figure's evil, but you can totally stand up to him, omfgggg, why does this ALL have to be Freudian. I know it was (and still is) hip, but also it's hella toxic. Also, Campbell's sentences certainly contain words, but they certainly don't contain meaning.

Fortunately I already know the general themes of the cycle, and have about 4-5 contemporary stories I know that follow all or part of the cycle, because Campbell's use of psychoanalysis to try and link everything to a deeper power "within ourselves that's super Freudian because everything has to be tied to Freud!" is sooo tedious to see through. The narrative is, ironically, all over the place.
