So, the ever-too-naked women don't require some sort of waxing? Is hairy the new sexy? Cool! Also, Sanderson's humour hits you in the face just when you need it most, so kudos to that.

I see that this is the "perpetually uncertain female characters" era of Sanderson. Vivenna's inner monologues and endless questions are annoying and repetitive, while Siri's sudden lack of reaction is frustrating... He's come so far with Shallan. Thing is, even Sarene (from Elantris) was better written than these two, though she preceded them.

More or less... I finally found a leitmotiff în Sanderson's books: the return to the old ways, which also implies a formerly revolutionary system that proves to be corrupt...

Currently listening to the last story. More sex... Also, I almost died when the reader started mimicking dolphins. I mean I get it, but good lord...

Finished the first two stories. First of all, this is a horror, not science-fiction. Secondly, it's official: male authors can't write sex scenes without causing (me) a healthy dose of discomfort. Thirdly, the poet's tale sounds amazing... For now.

For the past many months I've been in a dead end. New job, new route to work and a complete inability to read literature. That's why I have no idea if the page count is accurate, because I've started listening to books instead of actually reading them. Still, I really want to finish this one, so wish me luck!

I actually started this book last week and I am basically inhaling it. Given how much I dragged my feet with the last few novels, this is like a MUCH needed breath of air.

This is like a soap opera (but with more bloodshed) in which nobody cares about incest. To be honest, at this point I'm here only for the vocabulary.

If Mrs. Le Guin can't save me from bad literature, no one can...

Despite the fact that everything (should) feel different, I am expecting someone to pull out a shardblade. Maybe because of the obelisks?
Also, Syenite and Alabaster feel like every enemies-to-lovers(???) couple ever...

It's good. But it remains to be seen if it's great.

I finally remembered what other book this reminds me of: Perdido Street Station. Which is probably why I find it so hard to read, why I'm not really enjoying it, but also why I'm slowly and stubbornly making my way through to the end *sigh* There are so many things that make no sense because *characters!* and the blurb was full of s**t...

Of course the mammoth's name is Hannibal... Also, Metaxa does not involve worms.

It's weird. But it's not bad weird. It reminds me a bit of Serge Brussolo.

Based on the premise and timeline, this book should remind me of PKD's Electric Sheep... and yet, the opening and the story, so far, remind me of Reynolds' Chasm City... for some reason. This is my second attempt at reading McAuley and so far it's been going better than last time.

Make that Firefly, Andromeda and Farscape

Yep, taking a break from the other one...
So far, this one seems like a cross between Firefly and Andromeda.

*sigh* Red Mars was amazing... So far, this one has been... kind of depressing. Also, I am not in the mood for ice, stones and the generally desolate Martian landscape. I think I'm gonna put this on hold and start something else...

Because I want my diversity when it comes to spacefaring people (yes, that is a quip regarding the book I finished yesterday) and because it's about damn time I went on with this trilogy!

This is such a GUY book... *sigh*

Because I absolutely refuse to leave a Greg Egan book unfinished. Especially now that I'm about to get some more.
Also, beaming people up as gamma ray bursts and/or data packges seems to be a leitmotif in Mr./Mrs. Egan's works. It's really exciting, but it may turn tedious after being used in almost every story as the single intergalactic means of transportation.

Bad stuff is happening to characters I'm supposed to care about, but I just can't. I invested so much in the main story that I just don't care about this enormous epilogue. Also, everyone is acting precisely as their species "requires" it and this irks me. It's basically a world of carbon-copies with different names... And yet, everyone is "shocked" that the Julian was a mole... Seriously?

I completely lost my interest. When I finish I'll tell you why...

The human rights issue was called into question waaaay too late into the story (namely Aida being allowed to have kids and to do whatever she wanted with them, after having done all those atrocious things). Also, if anyone had a chance of starting human kind from scratch, would you really let that new world be populated by people with no practical skills?

Haven't had a lot of time on my hands, so that's why I barely got to part 2. So far, I nearly cried a total of 5 times, culminating with Earth's destruction, which I reached this morning (while on the tube, as always) and which actually made me reach for tissues and pretend to have an allergy or the flu...
