Though written/set in last ten years, this book feels very dated/formulaic. There are also several cringey moments with unqualified stereotypes of trans and Jewish, and some boring macho crap.
Surprised at how uneven and uninspired the writing is, as I have been a fan of the author’s sense of human understanding in other works. Maybe this was just an experiment in writing a basic thriller, but it doesn’t work.
