I didn’t expect this story to be so Ella Enchanted/academy pettiness and bullying and not court intrigue and war and such. Maybe it’ll get there, but I didn’t realize this was what the book would actually be about XD

I might be doing this book a disservice since I just finished reading a 5 star book that was POC-centric, tropical and sea-life themed, etc. It’s just so dull in comparison 🤣

The last 17% would have to mess up really bad for me to give this less than 5 stars

What a great opening chapter

Aww I think this was one of my favorites (end of story 14). It was so beautifully realized and perfectly blended the mermaid worldbuilding with themes of immigration and racism. 5 stars ✨

End of story 13, I need to know what happened bruh did she die or not 🙄 really interesting worldbuilding here, I would’ve loved a full novel of this. 4 Stars ✨

End of story 12. Today I learned what a manananggal is 😭 how horrifying Lmaooo. This one was so weird and gross but definitely unique. Great narrative voice. 3.5 Stars ✨

Why isn’t it anyone’s first instinct when a supernatural secret of there’s is revealed to be like “oh WTF IS GOING ON HELP ME” and just pretend you too have no clue what’s happening to you. That would be my instinct XD

End of story 11 (?) — it was alright. Never cared much for the characters, they tried shoehorning in a romance, and there wasn’t enough interesting lore to keep me, well, interested. Well written though. 3 Stars ✨

Can we stop shoehorning in romance to these stories 🙄
