Himmler:

Himmler sponsored massive academic and literary projects on the witch trials. The project didn't produce anything of worth, however, it remained at the level of a blunt assembling of material.

It seems Himmler really had some serious unfulfilled sexual desires in his time as a Catholic, because he was apparently fixated on how the Church ruined sex. I wouldn't positively affirm that however, it's a general impression and nothing more. That his sexual conflict shaped him, however, I do believe.

"In October 1934 he insisted that clergy and, in March 1935, theology students must quit the SS. In September 1935 he banned SS members from ‘participating in leadership roles’ in religious communities, in particular with the German Christians.[...] In November 1937 he even went so far as to ban SS members in uniform from taking part in religious ceremonies. "

"Thus, in 1938 he declared: ‘Christian doctrine has been responsible for the destruction of every nation. A religion which (a) sees women as sinful, (b) marriage as the lesser evil—it is at least better than the alternative, such teaching is in the long run absolutely liable to bring every nation to the grave.’"

In a speech, Himmler blamed Jews for the Witch Hunts, the Spanish Inquisition (?), and Charlemagnes massacre of the Saxons (???).

"In his study of the Düsseldorf office Johnson comes to the conclusion that the Gestapo’s activities concentrated on three groups in particular: Jews, members of the Left, as well as opposition priests and members of sects."
Freemasons were banned from the party, but otherwise left alone and the propaganda campaign against them dropped.

Himmler:
"Right from the start I took the view that it did not matter in the least if our actions were contrary to some clause in the law; in my work for the Führer and the nation I do what my conscience tells me is right and what is common sense."
