Each chapter could be its own stand alone Dark fairytale. While I think it’s a good book, and the story telling is engaging, it feels like it moves at a slow pace for me. Which is common in fairytales to build the setting.

Hey, what if the trail was just level for a while? There’s a novel idea.
I am loving this book so far. I read a little bit of it before bed each night and I look forward every day to hearing how far he makes it on each reading. His physical pacing and his literary pacing are phenomenal

Misogyny throughout this book is killing me. Every girl is described as rail thin and throwing themselves at the main character. Girls are constantly giggling. This all sounds like something I would have written in middle school. Just gotta finish this book. Only 71% left 😫

Oh man I’m not gonna quit but the bickering between Medusa and Mitchel annoys me. I’ve never been a fan of the flirting-by-punching-each-other thing. Also Mitchel having the question of why girls giggle so much- it’s so forced. Like I was expecting this to have been written by a misogynistic guy but apparently not! Either way. I’m gonna finish this book. At some point my mind coins change.

So far, honestly, not a huge fan. While it is quick paced, the characters so far are off the wall. They seem stereotypical and too comical. I don’t feel a lot towards them except, maybe contempt. But 5% isn’t a lot so I will continue forward!

Oh my god!!! Once the characters have slowed down their fighting this book really takes off! If I’m being honest, the fighting is so realistic. I’m really loving the suspense of this book and I’m having a hard time putting it down!

So far so good- I feel the beginning of the book is a lot more interesting than the middle section- maybe it’s just because I have a hard time picturing everything the way it should be. I keep picturing the captain as Captain Hook instead of the description. Continuing to fight what I think the captain looks like and what he does is my own mental struggle that pretty much stays in that section.

Also good so far! Though at times I get frustrated with both of the characters defects and have a hard time liking the main characters which is rare for me when reading a David Shaun Hutchinson book but I have hope!

So far so good! There’s a lot of hilarious parts but there’s also a lot of information. At times the information can get boring when all you want is the story to progress.

So far not a fan. The main character is so concerned with being seen as gay, and all male characters have this weird sole focus of not being as gay. Then the author takes this weird moment to comment on a teenage Indian girl’s feet and how their toes look like “hazelnuts”. Wtf....
