I'm in an attic and it's dark all around. And quiet. I'm reading a book about the apocalypse and it's 3am and I feel so, so alone. The depth of isolation this book inspires makes me feel like I'm the only one in the entire earth. Right here, right now.

The favourite book of a close friend and so when I stumbled across it, I had to read it. So far, the prose is stunning (It seems I've been blessed with pretty prose recently--the past 3 books I've picked up have been impeccable in that regard)

Hmm, the beginning is vaguely reminiscent of the the great gatsby. Listening as an audio book

Okayyy, definitely getting strange. Really strange. But still so beautiful in the language. (Finished part one)

The copy of this book I'm reading reminds me oh-so-much of the copy of Final Girls I read years ago—a book I haven't thought about in eons. A book with memories. This one seems like it's made up of memories too

Read the Juvenilia poems. I wasn't the greatest fan of her prose,, but her poetry?!? Stunning

The prose?!?! So far, this is the most beautiful book I've read in a long, long time. I wasn't expecting magic from the open pages

So far well written, enjoying the world building and magic system
(Damn, thieves in high fantasy worlds are brilliant, I've been reading a lot of those recently)

Fantastic prose. Mayhaps drags on a tad, but still beyond gripping. I've dropped it for weeks, which I'm intensely embarrassed about, but every time I return to it I'm completely enamoured by the world it creates

Brilliant. Brilliantly narrated and brilliant content. Really makes you think. I essentially grew up, and am still growing up on the internet. Most people have. And it's fascinating to go through your personal history in the lens of this book. Picked it up for solely linguistic purposes, but stayed for the way it deals with internet culture. One of the best commentary's I've seen on internet usage, handled incredibly

The book is so damn interesting, I fall in love with it everytime I pick it up, and everytime I regret leaving it alone for so long. And yet I can't remember half of what the book teaches me. It just flies straight out. I don't mean to forget, because truly, everything mentioned is dope, and I'd love to retain that information, the only problem is that there's so much information, and you end up losing it indirectly.

Wow, I've been dragging this read out. But that's chill, it's a brilliant book. It'll take however long it takes.
Notes thus far:
The narration is impeccable. (The humour too)
The explanations are accessible. And overall, it's the perfect guide to linguistics

So far so good, the narrator is brilliant, and the information is fairly accessible, whilst still being comprehensive

That chapter on dogs was gold. Not loving the writing style though...it's not bad per se, just not my cup of tea. I honestly don't know what I was expecting with this book, but it wasn't this. Still, I'm glad I picked it up.

First thoughts: interesting narration, interesting topic.
I wasn't actually planning on reading this book just yet, but I'd discovered that it started with a quote from The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, and that coincidence was too great for me to not continue reading. I'd read The Goldfinch a month or two ago, and it quickly became my favourite book of all time. Seeing that quote was so utterly unexpected.

Every day by David Levithan, but make it a mystery.

Not badly written-- it's interesting because I was just as confused as the protagonist was, and the less confused he got, the more I followed suit.
