Did not finish this. The entire first 20% of the book was the main character describing and dealing the effects of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and going through increasingly painful treatments. By 50% mark, it was just more and more pages devoted to describing the physical pain and limitations of Ehlers-Danlos, only now in a vacation cottage in Maine, with a minor subplot of something starting to terrorize their nights.

When he was done washing the car, he jogged to a vending machine and came back with a Christmas tree air freshener. He gave it to her.
"Pine scent," she said, "really? Everything already smells like pine up here."
"Save it for when we go back home, it'll remind us of Maine."

As David lay in bed that night, caught between sleeping and waking, his Mother's voice carried to him from the darkness of the sunken garden, calling him name, demanding that she not be forgotten.

"'He looks like a cowboy.' Sandy said.
'It's Taxas, baby. They all look like cowboys.'"
