Super subtle experiments with narrative perspective . Book asking tricky hermeneutical questions. “You” is often addressed but it is a different “you” each time. The found document / primary source curation as novel raises all sorts of interesting textual questions about where and when and why this information is being accessed, retrieved, and consumed.

I like that everyone is dead. Most books that purport to be apocalyptic don’t have the guts to pull the trigger. This book doesn’t have that problem.

We’ve gotten to the space war and conspiracy theory aspects of the book.

It occurs to me that the book is about parenthood. The narrator watches as Sen grows up in a hostile world but feels completely helpless to help or interfere in any way.

Also, the art looks like a magic eye poster. Sometimes I feel like I have to be high to figure it out.

I know there is always some catch up required anytime you pick up a comic book, but the lore here is prohibitively expansive and clumsily introduced. I had to read some Wikipedia and watch some videos just to contextualize this story. That’s kind of a cranky complaint, but the book is sold as an individual volume so I hoped the storyteller would do the job of establishing everything.

Absolutely relentless. Hundley decorates the page with his knowing. You are better off for it.

“Settled” and “War of Naked Aggression” are stories built by the type of craftsman we don’t see to often anymore.

The book sprawls and spirals. It gives you too much information, but that is perhaps the point. A tale too unwieldy to tell , better expressed as a fairy tale. The book is about everything, the end of life and the end of life as we know it.

She threads together Haley’s comet, the brothers Grimm, the 80s AIDS epidemic among other things. The threads all interact and elucidate one another in surprising ways.
