Ha. I knew it!

From what I've heard about the tv show and now know about the book, the two are nothing alike.

I'm a little underwhelmed for having learned the truth about Joshua.

Don't trust Joshua a lick...not that he's necessarily bad, I just don't think he's being 100% truthful, even after he supposedly told Abner the "truth."

These vampires, despite not appearing to be the monstrous kind, are actually very frightening. GRRM does a find job of creating a fearsome atmosphere. The book is really nothing like the Ice and Fire series (for obvious reasons), but thus far its just as entertaining and engrossing. Somewhat similar to Rice, but with none of the baroque existentialism and much more of the good ol' fashioned horror.

This is quite good so far, very atmospheric, and Joshua York is sufficiently creepy.

Thus far, very reminiscent of "Interview With the Vampire." It's not typical of what you've come to expect from GRRM, if you were only judging him on the "Ice and Fire" series.

Is this actually a book aimed towards adults or am I missing something?

I'm not a Salemite, but the passages in this book about the city sound as if they've been lifted from an encyclopedia or a tourist brochure.

Not even 20 pages in and it's already mind-numbingly awful.
