This is clearly going to be an essential text for me. I should buy the thing instead of getting it from the library over and over again.

Left off on pg 145

Traister is a favorite of mine, I have been looking forward to this book for some time.
p. 41: "calls for civility are designed to protect the powerful by casting them as victims." Never thought of it in quite that way before, but of course it is true.

I read almost 100 pages today, and the day's not over yet. McNamara's writing is so crisp, I am barreling through this book, unable to put it down.

I wonder if Hamlet will be a running theme: Kit sees Diane as a devil, "a goblin damn'd." From Act I Scene 4, Hamlet addresses his father's ghost:

"Be thou a spirit of health or goblin damned,
Bring with thee airs from heaven or blasts from hell,
Be thy intents wicked or charitable,
Thou comest in such a questionable shape
That I will speak to thee."

Dr. Lena Severin-> severe
Kit-> naive, timid (rabbit), but also a predator/scavenger (fox, wolverine)
Diane Fleming-> surname of a world-renowned scientist; DianA suggests a glamorous princess, but also the Greek goddess of the hunt

Page 270: The single most predictable "shocking reveal" plot twist that I have ever seen. My estimation of this book has plummeted with this chapter.
Since that prediction panned out, I'll venture another: Connor is gay, Dylan is his boyfriend, and his parents are idiots for not having known this 200 pages earlier. If this turns out to be Second Life's next "surprise," this book is utter trash.
