Interlude: Coronet City, between chapters six and seven, has the most excellent bit-part character I've ever known in a Star Wars book

We live not in the hands of the gods. We save for tomorrow to spite the gods, because we don't need their shackles. But we will never be truly free of them until we fully dominate the world. Except this is unattainable; we will sooner meet our destruction, and at our own hands, no less.

Holy shit. Finally past the unscientific intro, which was probably constructed purposefully, in retrospect, to illustrate how we take whatever creation myth we KNOW of man we take for granted as fact. But now - now we're deep into questioning "Mother Culture" and how this world may not be our birthright, our destinied thing to conquer.
