I was loving this book until in the span of one chapter it was revealed that not only is her 15-year-old daughter in a secret relationship WITH HER TEACHER WHO HAS FLIRTED WITH HER MOM but also that this family had a second child WHO WAS KILLED BY A CAR AFTER GOING INTO THE ROAD ON HER TODDLER SCOOTER. I’m a wreck

Three words: Rachel was right.

Loved this until the end. I feel like most of the books I’ve read this year just don’t know how to end satisfyingly in their own way.

DNFing because it’s both boring and triggering which is a thumbs down for me.

This is one of those books that I can’t settle on a rating. Like I really enjoyed it but also some stuff was just lacking but I’m wondering if what was lacking was actually genius to leave out. The atmosphere though omg. Literally the vibes of a cult but in verse - chefs kiss.

I was warned that this ending would be a let down and I get that it’s literary fiction and not a mystery but oh my gosh. Please insert a million examples of let downs that you can imagine and that is how I’m feeling.

I admit the ending saved this book for me. So basically it was a sandwich where the bread is great but nothing else is so really you could have just eaten some bread rather than eaten a sandwich. If it had held onto its quirks and humor rather than taking a slow pause for student-teacher relationships and suicides it would have flowed better and just quite frankly been better.

Ngl I’m kind of hating this - or especially the audiobook version - but thanks to traffic I’m over a fourth way in so I’m committed now.

This is like the perfect mix of “let’s talk about toxic, sneaky men in corporate” but throw in laughs and sarcasms and a cute sprinkle of romance. Oh and lots of kittens which automatically makes it a feel good read.

I’m hoping that this gets better soon or else it will be a low rating for me… but nothing is really happening and I hate the character so much that I basically don’t even want to read the book? Which I get that is maybe the point but also I’d prefer to just read an essay calling out racism in publishing and the industry in general.

This book is like watching a cute film and then something bad happens and you’re like “oh no!” but you know it will get resolved but if it doesn’t then your heart will be crushed.
