I’ve seen a reviews saying this is a retread of his YouTube videos. While I’ve seen a video (and not a whole one), I’m otherwise pretty unfamiliar with Abdaal’s work.

My first impression however is the basic premise does resonate with me — I too believe working hard was your way out most times and I’ve had periods where I’ve ended up lacking joy. I’m looking forward to seeing what the book says.

Also, this chapter has an interesting look at Irish priests who settled in Jeju Island in the 1950's and help create a viable agriculture industry here. Father P.J. McGlinchey: "Every time I see a farmer driving a Daewoo car, I think, 'We helped him do that.' The church can do a great deal more than merely preaching the good word, you know."

Winchester's journey into Jeju Island is quite fascinating. He actually incorporates a lot of the island's history into this chapter including An insurgent attack by the forefathers of North Korea in the late 1940's as a way to double team the South and its allies: "Had the Communists ploy succeeded in Jeju, the whole of Korea might be united - under the malevolent leadership of Kim Il Sung."

I'm in June of Rubin's year-long journey to figuring out the keys of happiness. It's been a good read so far. I been impressed with the thoughtful manner she had done this project. I am finding tidbits that I can apply to my life.
