A really fascinating one. I keep thinking of a movie I watched half of, where a white woman preys on the image and presence of a POC one for her own success, showing their clear class divisions. Snow is acting in a similar way; while his empathy for the District folk may be real, it's only his respect for Lucy that makes him feel that way. Interesting themes of tokenization here, as a result.

Unfortunately, this is too cozy of a book for me to warm up to :-/ the characters aren't interesting enough for me to just vibe with

I'm getting more used to the idea of slow-burn romances, since the last one I encountered was fairly enjoyable the whole time through. however, I'm not as immediately heartened by this one compared to the last; The different nations and its politics throw me more, and are a little more mystifying than I would prefer. I wonder if that's because Jainan is so secretive & Kiam so dense? It's not too bad, however.

I'm actually impressed this is the only enemies to lovers romantasy I've felt compelled by LOL

rechecked this book out from the library so I could make absolutely sure that I was committed to dropping this book. yeah, I can't be bothered. there's nothing really interesting going on w the main characters at all, nothing that pulls at me, and the plot is just kinda dragging. eh.

immensely interested in the relationship with Moira and David; thought it picked up quite suddenly. It's interesting how quickly David let down his walls here, and no doubt it's going to come back to bite him. Moira, too, has layers I was not expecting at all.

continuing to read this book reminds me to celebrate differences that exist in us as human beings; women, as this book tries to describe, exist as beings who have deep, deep emotions as it relates to friendships. I treasure each one of my surviving friends as I grow; and while I celebrate the simplicity that male friendships afford, I feel grateful to have my female friends (and trans and queers included) as well.

there's a lot of real, tangible solutions in this book that i'm taking note of. trusting your gut is one; getting to the root of a problem & not being sidetracked with past grievances or issues; not being accusatory. a solution that many of the friendship-enders have come to is writing a letter; from experience, this usually doesn't work as well as having a phone call or face to face talk. more later.
