I've not even read Michaelides' other book yet, but just got extremely excited to see another character from The Silent Patient featured as well as the plot of it mentioned.

I am sometimes not a fan of flashbacks or interludes but both have been so intriguing here.

I once saw a spindly man carrying a stone larger than his head... People made way for him. Not because they sympathized with him, but because they feared the momentum of his steps... The monarch is like this man, stumbling along, the weight of a kingdom on his shoulders. Many give way before him, but so few are willing to step in and help carry the stone... lest they condemn themselves to a life full of extra burdens

'And what of those who protect and defend? The ones who save lives by taking lives?'

His father snorted. 'That's like trying to stop a storm by blowing harder. Ridiculous. You can't protect by killing.'"

I love Shallan but I love Jasnah even more. I'm hoping this duo come together soon, as I can see them being an unstoppable force!

It begins!

It took me almost all month to read the first 100 pages and I have flown through the following 200 in one morning. This is different to what I thought it would be but I'm thoroughly hooked!

Knowing that my inability to do maths has a biological root, and isn't due to my own personal failing in the subject, is the boost I really needed this morning.

"The world is hard, a voice in his mind says. You need to be harder.

That was not the chilling scene I needed to be reading, as it closes on midnight and a storm rages outside 😱😱😱

I've only read the author's letter to the reader and the book dedication, so far, and am already finding this powerful and well penned.
